Colour me pink.

It was now or never: with a deep breath he began

Colour me pink,

For I am black and white

Colour me pink,

The perfect shade between your fiery red temper and my calm white nature,

Colour me pink,

For it’s your favourite colour and compliments you beautifully.

Colour me pink, make an honest man out of me, lets plant a bed of pink roses behind our white picket fence.

Her eyes shone with tears: the moment was beautiful, he was beautiful. She hadn’t been expecting it and was shocked that he had been able to plan it all without giving any clues away. She trembled as she said the word yes.

Tears cascaded down her face as she watched her accept the ring, now if only they could step through the screen and nudge her boyfriend of eight long suffering (OK wasn’t all that bad) years in the right direction. He hadn’t even tried watching the movie with her, out as a light at the first scene.

  1. LOL! She is marrying a man that doesn’t seem to have the same interests as her. I hope their marriage is a good one inspite of this. This is a great story and I enjoyed reading it. Thank you so much for participating in Flash Fiction for Aspiring Writers Challenge!

  2. I like your view on the picture as a scene in a movie. Lol. I don’t know that her boyfriend was too interested in the movie it was a chick flick. If it has taken him 8 years to propose are longer something is wrong.

  3. Thay do seem like a pair of opposites, but opposites so often attract. Eight years is a long tinme, so I hope he’ll propose pretty soon! You’ve told the story in an interesting way, through the movie. Good story.

  4. I think her boyfriend…of 8 long years…is quite satisfied with the way things are now, so why make changes to that. Problem is…he likes the way things are , but she keeps hanging on to a hope that he will marry her one day. I believe her hope and dreams of marrying him is just that…hope and dreams.

  5. I really like the way you drew us in, thinking the woman was being emotional about her own boyfriend proposing, and then drew back to show that she was responding to a movie, and how bittersweet it must be to watch a movie character get what she so desperately wanted. Nicely done!

And yes, if it’s been eight years, it doesn’t look like he’s going to ask. Although come on, lady, if you want to marry him, then ASK HIM. If she’s going to wait around for someone to give her what she wants, she sort of deserves not to get it.

      1. Oh, I don’t blame her for wanting it. It’s the “sticking around even though she’s not getting it” that I see as problematic. As too many women can attest to, the wrong prince does not magically turn into the right prince if you only wait long enough. (sigh) Maybe this will be the clue for her that it’s time to move on.

  6. He’s a winner, right? Or a great best friend 😛 Alas, never take your best male friend to a soppy movie, eh? On the other hand, eight years is nothing these days.
You wrote a great scene. So innocently beautiful it was!
