“Dear lord thank you for the meal before us,
For the hands that provided it, the ones that cooked and for those that shall partake of it.
Please keep away the busybodies who won’t let us eat in peace,
coming over at odd times to complain about their silly worries.
The hungry people who always pretend to just visit, but came over to eat a free meal
and keep us from Deacon Nelson, the man just doesn’t know his place.
All this we ask, in Christ’s name.
No one said a word, grandmas prayer had put all the guests at the dinner table in their proper place. Mama was trying so hard not to laugh, Pa was horrified and I could understand why, he was the pastor at St. Phillips after all. Needless to say the atmosphere at the table was similar to that at the last supper.
